The Avengers Universe and the order to watch.
Captain America: The First Avenger Here we meet the first Avenger and the beginning of their story. We are introduced to the Starks and the weapons they’re developing for the war. And, at the end, we meet S.H.I.E.L.D director Nick Fury…and the story begins…
Marvel’s Agent Carter: Season 1 This series was inspired by the Captain America films, so it only makes sense to watch this one in coordination with ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ and early on in this list. It is intertwined with Howard Stark and set in 1940s America.
Iron Man Here the story of the Starks, specifically Tony Stark, develops. After being held captive in an Afghan cave, Tony creates his weaponized suit of armor to battle against evil; Iron Man is born.
The Incredible Hulk We learn the back-story to another important Avenger in this movie: the Hulk. We learn what caused Bruce Banner’s ‘condition’, in which he changes into a green-skinned, superhumanly powerful (albeit angry) creature. At the end, we see Tony Stark enter and the storyline continues.
Iron Man 2 The Iron Man story develops even more here, as well as the backstory of S.H.I.E.L.D and Nick Fury. We also meet Natasha Romanoff in the story and learn more about how she became involved in S.H.I.E.L.D. At the end, we learn that a large hammer was found at the bottom of a crater in a desert of New Mexico…
Thor. Thor was sent down to Earth by his father, Odin, to teach him a lesson in humility. He loses his powers, but falls in love with scientist Jane Foster. When the hammer is thrown down to Earth, hundreds of people gather to try to lift it, but it awaits the one who is worthy, which will soon be Thor. Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D agents are involved in the storyline, hence intertwining Thor into the Avengers timeline.
Marvel’s The Avengers One of the greatest movies of the entire Marvel world so far, the Avengers all come together to stop Loki and his alien army. Nick Fury realizes he is out of options when Loki takes control of the Tesseract and needs to assemble his Avengers to save the world. It is at the end of this movie we see Thanos, too, who is an important part to the developing Marvel timeline.
Iron Man 3 We dive deeper into the life of Tony Stark and Iron Man in this movie. While Stark/Iron Man takes on an enemy that destroys his personal world, he begins to discover the answer to a question that has haunted him: does the man make the suit, or does the suit make the man.
Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D: Season 1, E1-7 This show shares continuity with the movies that were released before, during and after it began. It takes a more in-depth look at the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The first episodes of season one takes us on a journey through some dangerous cases that the agents must handle.
Thor: The Dark World Thor’s story develops more in this movie, taking us back to Asgard where we learn that Convergence, an alignment of the Nine Realms, is imminent. When Jane finds one of the portals to another world and becomes infected by Aether. This takes Thor on a journey to save Jane, and ultimately Earth. We also learn more about the Infinity Stones that will continue to pop up in storylines.
Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D: Season 1, E8-15 Moving farther along the timelines of the Marvel Universe, the mid-episodes of season one carry on the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D’s storyline. It has plenty of references to Asgardians to follow up on Thor: The Dark World.
Captain America: Winter Soldier Following up from Avengers and the first Captain America movie, we learn more about Captain America’s life and world. We see him get stronger in this film and a greater connection develops between him, Nick Fury, and Black Widow. We are also given a glimpse of two very important characters at the end of this movie.
Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D: Season 1, E16-22 These episodes will run along the timeline of Captain America: Winter Soldier, as well as give more detail into HYDRA.
Guardians of the Galaxy This movie took us in an entirely new direction in the Marvel Universe. It introduced many new characters, but let us learn more about how they all intertwine in the Universe. We see Thanos and Ronan, and better understand the enemies that have been mentioned throughout the different Avenger movies.
Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D: Season 2, E1-19 These episodes will continue to contribute supporting details into the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and HYDRA as we continue to learn more about the Marvel Universe through the new movie releases.
Marvel’s Daredevil, Season 1 In season 1 of Daredevil on Netflix, we learn more about Matt Murdock, who lost his sight in an accident as a boy and now has some seriously heightened senses that help him beat the bad guys. He doles out vigilante justice in the New York neighborhood Hell’s Kitchen, the neighborhood that had been destroyed during The Avengers to save the world from invading aliens.
Avengers: Age of Ultron The Avengers all reunite to defeat Ultron, a global defense program created by Stark that goes haywire. We don’t want to give any details away since the movie is so new, but let’s just say Affinity Stones and some really important new characters come into play. And, the bonus scene gives us a glimpse of what could be next.
